So far I've bought from Dover, Perseus, University of Chicago (and other university presses it distributes), Simon &
Schuster, Candlewick, and
HarperCollins kids. Whew! I do hope I'll figure out a good way to preview some of my favorites from all of them. During the next few busy weeks I'll try to keep updating with some of the new recommendations from fellow
Booksmith staffers.

I have a question about book signing events. Is it an off season at booksmith for events? I don't see the usual big authors you had last year.I like to meet the famous authors and add to my collection. I liked the poets too..any more poets coming up? Not many novels. Will things pick up in the spring? What happened to the guy who used to do events? He was good. Thanks for the staff picks.....I've found many I've liked.
Hey Anon, thanks for your comments! I've passed them along to our events coordinators, Genie and Mark. You're right that Brian, our previous events director, isn't here any longer. Genie just started a couple months ago, but Mark actually was our events coordinator before Brian and is now back!
To be honest I don't know too much about event bookings, but I do know that the current economic climate means there just aren't as many authors doing book tours that take them too far from home.
Also, there are a lot of great bookstores in metro Boston and we have to compete with all of them to get the best authors. Believe me, we try our hardest!
Our spring events calendar is still taking shape, but you can see who's coming here: http://www.brooklinebooksmith.com/Events/MainEvent.html. He many not be famous yet, but I'm particularly excited for Jedediah Berry's visit on March 5th. Also, if you like mysteries than you'll definitely want to come to our May 28th event with Michael Connelly and George Pelecanos.
